Alzheimer's disease sounds scary and difficult to handle. But you probably would never have thought when a sufficient enough vitamin D, you can reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's.
Two new studies found that vitamin D can reduce a woman's risk of Alzheimer's disease, especially in women at midlife. They were not enough vitamin D had greater risk of cognitive impairment and mental decline more rapidly than those who consumed enough vitamin D.
Vitamin D is an essential vitamin that can be obtained through a variety of foods such as fish, butter, cheese and milk. In addition, the body is also able to make its own vitamin D when exposed to sunlight.
The first study chaired by Dr. Yelena Slinin, researchers from the Medical Center in Minneapolis USA, found that women who are deficient in vitamin D more likely to experience cognitive disturbances.
Slinin and his team analyzed the levels of the vitamin than 6257 women were included in the study Osteopathic Fractures. The women also experience mental ability test known as the Mini-Mental State Examination, and / or the Trail Making Test Part B.
The researchers found that women with low vitamin D levels are very low at less than 10 nanograms per milliliter of blood serum greater risk of experiencing cognitive problems more quickly. In addition, low levels of vitamin D of less than 20 nanograms per milliliter among women who experience cognitive impairment, associated with a greater risk of mental decline (dementia).
A second study led by Dr. Cedric Annweiler of Angers University Hospital in France also stated the same thing. After analyzing the data 489 women who participated in Osteoporosis Epidemiology, researchers found that women who ate enough vitamin D are less susceptible to neurological disease.
The results showed that women with Alzheimer's disease taking vitamin D on average 50.3 micrograms per week. Women who suffer from dementia consume an average of 53.6 micrograms per week, and women without any neurologic average was 59 micrograms per week.
Researchers advised, it is important for you to meet the needs of vitamin D. The way to do them is to increase the intake of food sources of vitamin D, taking supplements, to bask in the morning sun.
